Second Lieutenant Stowell was the navigator-bombardier of a B-25J Mitchell medium bomber, nicknamed “Cactus Kitten,” that was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire while making a bombing run over enemy shipping in the Saigon River. The plane was burning badly and disintegrated in midair just before crashing 19 miles south-southwest of Saigon. Second Lieutenant Stowell is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing in the Manila American Cemetery in Taguig City, Philippines. - This narrative was submitted with the enrollment form.
