USS Cisco began her first war patrol on 20 September 1943, and was never heard from after that. Japanese records indicate that a submarine was attacked and sunk on 28 September in the area where USS Cisco was the only known American Submarine. She was presumed lost in action on that date. Electrician's Mate Second Class Frederick M. Briggs was reported as Missing in Action and later declared dead on 8 January 1946. His name is listed on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila Cemetery in Manila, Philippines.
