First Lieutenant Buck was the navigator on a Boeing B-17F Superfortress very heavy bomber that took off on 25 Jan 1944 from Foch Field, Tunisia, on a reconnaissance mission along the coast of Naples, Italy. The plane never returned and all 13 crew members were declared Missing in Action, later administratively declared dead on 12 Apr 1945.
First Lieutenant Buck is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing in the North Africa American Cemetery in Carthage, Tunisia.
