While serving as the radio operator aboard a B-24D bomber, Sergeant Plummer was reported Missing in Action when his plane was attacked by the enemy, and he bailed out over Hankow, China. His remains were never recovered, and his name is inscribed on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery in Taguig City, Philippines
