Seaman 2nd Class Higaredawas aboard the destroyer escort USS Fiske when the ship was on anti-submarine patrol off the coast of Northwest Africa. USS Fiske was torpedoed by U-804 and sank with a loss of 30 sailors. He was killed in action and buried at sea.
