Lance Corporal Carpenter was wounded during an attack on his Marine Outpost in Marjah, Afghanistan. He was wounded when an enemy grenade was thrown into his position. He jumped on the grenade to protect a fellow Marine from the blast, and was awarded the Medal of Honor.
