"His job was to look for IED's. The early morning of July 31, 2005, one wasn't spotted by their convoy and Chris' brand new hummer was destroyed. Timmy Dyal and Bobby Gulledge were barely hurt, but Chris was hit by shrapnel in the back. He had major damage to his lung, liver, and diaphragm, and lost his spleen. Worse than that, though he lost his friend Dusty. It is always hard to lose someone young, but actually lose someone so full of life was devastating. I am grateful for Chris' amazing recovery and am proud of the soldiers who worked on him and Dusty." Narrative submitted with enrollment
