Gunner's Mate 3rd Class Adkins was among those lost on the Oklahoma when it capsized after being struck by three torpedoes during the attack on Pearl Harbor. His remains were buried, but unidentified until 11 April 2018, and he was buried in Portland, Oregon, 4 April 2019.
