On May 21 2009, Major General Richard J Rowe Jr., Commanding General, Joint Forces Headquarters National Capital Region and the Military District of Washington, awarded Major Louis E. Dorfman III with a Purple Heart. Major Dorfman III was serving with the 492nd Civil Battalion in Baghdad, Iraq when 26, 110-millimeter mortars rained down on his position, Major Dorfman while wounded himself, helped fellow wounded soldiers obtain treatment before allowing any treatment for his wounds.
