Private First Class John J. (Jake) Parette was wounded on 26 August 2011 when his Scout Platoon, 501st Cavalry [5th squadron 1st Cavalary] , 25th Infantry Division, was out on patrol in Afghanistan conducting culvert denial/anti-improvised explosive device operations when his unit came under attack by hostile forces. Jake was wounded by an enemy recoilless rifle blast causing a concussion injury (mild traumatic brain injury) and injuries to discs in his back. (Narrative submitted with the enrollment)
