Sgt. Hopkins was on an escort mission to the Iraqi Nadine Police Headquarters. At 2230 Hours, while traveling South along Route WILD his vehicle was struck on the right side by an I.E.D. The blast forced the vehicle to the left, and off the road. Sergeant Hopkins was able to regain control of the vehicle and escape the "kill zone."
