Major Duckworth was wounded when an enemy RPG round struck the Black Hawk Helicopter she was in. She was in the pilot's seat when the round struck the bottom of the helicopter. The explosion sent a fireball into her cabin. She lost both of her legs. Afterward she was taken to a Hospital in Taji, flown to a surgical hospital in Baghdad, and then finally to Walter Reed.
