Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Ford was aboard Landing ship Tank 531 during a rehearsal for D-Day which took place in England. German e-boats attacked with torpedoes sinking ships including LST-531. Petty Officer Ford was reported missing on action 28 April 1944 and later declared dead, 29 April 1945.
